Expanded Rollout of Project Astra Features by Gemini Live Now Underway

Gemini Live’s Project Astra features are now being rolled out to a larger number of Android users. This update enhances the conversational assistant by allowing it to accept multimodal input, including camera and screen sharing, in addition to traditional voice commands. However, iOS users may experience delays, as Google has yet to announce plans for releasing these features on iPhones. Gemini Live, a powerful conversational assistant capable of interpreting natural language and providing intelligent responses, has been a coveted feature for many users.

Google had previously indicated that Project Astra capabilities would become available to Android users with the Gemini app in the coming weeks. Reports show that various users are beginning to access the new video and screen-sharing functions. A Reddit user recently shared their success in using camera and screen sharing, with several others confirming that the update has reached their Android flagships. During the Google I/O 2024 event, the company showcased the multifaceted capabilities of Project Astra for Gemini Live, highlighting how the assistant can engage with users through various input modes.

Initially, these functions were restricted to Gemini Advanced users and specific devices, but Google has since expanded availability due to positive feedback. To utilize Project Astra features, users need to open the Gemini app and tap the Gemini Live button located in the corner of the text input box. This will activate Gemini Live, where users can choose between two buttons—one for video feed sharing and another for screen sharing. After selecting an option, users can ask questions based on what Gemini Live detects.

As for iOS users eager to experience these functionalities, it appears they may need to be patient, as no timeline has been provided for a potential rollout. If you are an Android user who has gained access to Gemini Live’s video and screen sharing features, we’d love to hear how you’re using them!
