YouTube is currently experimenting with a new feature that utilizes Google’s AI Overviews, aimed at improving the video search experience. This feature is designed to help users quickly access the most relevant segments of videos based on their search intent, rather than relying solely on keyword matches.
At this stage, it is available only to a limited number of YouTube Premium users in the United States who are conducting searches in English. The latest update from a Google employee disclosed the introduction of an AI Overview carousel in YouTube’s search results.
When users enter specific types of queries, such as product searches or local activities, they may see a selection of video clips that the AI has chosen to answer their queries more directly. This functionality is intended to enhance the discovery of content that aligns with the user’s specific interests.
For example, when searching for “best noise canceling headphones,” users may be presented with video snippets that focus on comparisons or recommendations, rather than just entire videos that match the keywords used in the search. This streamlined approach promises to improve the efficiency of finding relevant information.
Currently, only a small group of US-based YouTube Premium members can access these AI-driven results, and this feature will only be visible for certain queries. Users who are part of this test group are encouraged to leave feedback using the three-dot menu within the app to help enhance the feature.
