Samsung’s Galaxy AI search features, introduced with One UI 7, have aimed to enhance user experience by enabling searches through natural language. However, functionality remains segmented; users must navigate different search bars for different applications. In contrast, OPPO’s newly launched AI Search feature offers a cohesive solution which simplifies the search process.
This functionality is now being implemented globally on the OPPO Find N5. The announcement came at Google Cloud Next 2025, where it was revealed that OPPO’s AI Search leverages Google Cloud for operations outside of China. During the event, Jason Liao, president of the OPPO Research Institute, demonstrated the feature using his OPPO Find N5.
He illustrated how typing queries into a universal search bar quickly yielded relevant results, such as finding flight times or locating a specific photo of his passport. This intuitive approach sets OPPO’s AI Search apart. For example, Liao’s search for his passport photo was successful even though the image wasn’t labeled as such.
The AI’s capacity to recognize and categorize images allows for efficient retrieval of data without demanding the user to special-case their queries. Liao noted, “a model that runs on-device will be able to categorize the photo album. But the understanding of the query is through Google Cloud.”
The system prioritizes user privacy through an encrypted Private Computing Cloud. Ultimately, OPPO’s AI Search represents a significant advancement in mobile technology, streamlining the search process by making it seamless and unobtrusive. While an over-the-air update will soon provide this feature to OPPO Find N5 users, it’s anticipated that it may eventually roll out to other OPPO devices, and possibly even to OnePlus phones, given the brands’ interconnectedness.
