A new tablet from OnePlus has made its way through the FCC under the designation OnePlus Pad 3R. This listing does not provide extensive details on its hardware specifications, but it does accompany a new stylus named the OnePlus Pencil.
With both products appearing in the FCC database, a launch may be on the horizon. For weeks, speculation has indicated that OnePlus was preparing to release a high-end tablet, anticipated to be a follow-up to the previous OnePlus Pad 2.
Many expected a flagship model, possibly named “Pad 2 Pro.” However, the recent FCC filing indicates a shift in direction, with the model number OPD2408 identifying this device as the OnePlus Pad 3R.
According to the information captured in the FCC documents, the tablet will support dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and wireless power transfer (WPT). However, it remains unclear if this includes actual wireless charging—a rare feature in tablets.
The device is also designed to operate in both standalone mode and as a laptop with a keyboard. The software and hardware builds associated with it are listed, providing some foundational information.
Interestingly, past leaks suggested that the OnePlus Pad 3R might share similarities with the OPPO Pad 4 Pro. This model features a 13.2-inch 3K+ display, Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, up to 16GB of RAM, and a substantial 12,140mAh battery.
Given OnePlus’s history of mirroring OPPO’s technology, expectations were set for a high-quality device. The use of “3R” raises questions regarding OnePlus’s strategic branding for tablets.
In the smartphone lineup, the “R” designation tends to indicate a mid-range version of flagship devices. This could imply a rethinking of how OnePlus categorizes its tablet offerings.
Nonetheless, there is anticipation surrounding the OnePlus Pad 3R, and with its FCC clearance, an official announcement may be imminent.
