Google is set to introduce a unique event dedicated entirely to Android ahead of its annual developer conference, Google I/O 2025. This event, titled “The Android Show: I/O Edition,” will be streamed live on YouTube on May 13 at 10 AM PT (1 PM ET). This innovative approach will allow Google to showcase new experiences and updates that will be coming to the Android platform, marking a significant shift in how the company shares its Android news.
Hosting the event will be Sameer Samat, the President of the Android Ecosystem at Google. Samat is expected to dive into various “innovative new experiences” that users can look forward to in the current year. He emphasized that Android updates have always played a pivotal role during the I/O conference, stating that this dedicated show is intended to kick off the I/O season with exciting previews.
In the announcement, Samat noted, “What’s new with Android has always been a huge part of Google I/O, and we know people are excited! That’s why we’re kicking off this year’s I/O season with a special deep dive.” His enthusiasm for the upcoming announcements indicates that there’s a lot to reveal, with even more surprises anticipated during the main I/O event starting on May 20.
Rest assured, Android will remain a central theme at the I/O conference despite having its own pre-event. Google has arranged this show due to the overwhelming amount of news and updates regarding Android this year. Attendees and viewers can expect significant announcements during the keynote and various technical sessions throughout I/O 2025.
As always, Android Authority will provide up-to-the-minute coverage from the event in Mountain View, CA.
