Chromecast with Google TV gains new features inspired by its upcoming successor.

The Chromecast with Google TV has recently received an exciting update that introduces the Home Panel feature, now available to a broader audience. Originally, this feature was exclusive to those who participated in the Google Home public preview program. The Home Panel allows users to manage their smart home devices directly from their Chromecast, making it easier to control lights, cameras, and speakers without needing a separate device.

Even though the Chromecast with Google TV is no longer being sold, Google is committed to enhancing its functionality. In March, it received an update that upgraded the device to Android 14. Now, with the addition of the Home Panel, it gains functionality previously enjoyed exclusively by the more expensive Google TV Streamer.

So, what does the Home Panel entail? Essentially, it’s a straightforward yet impactful feature that reflects the Favorites tab from the Google Home app. This allows easy access to various smart home devices through your television interface.

Users can now control their home setup with just a click or two, improving convenience significantly. You can access the Home Panel through the Quick Settings menu on your Google TV. It can also be accessed by long-pressing the home button on the Chromecast remote.

For those with multiple Google TV devices, this feature may soon be available on those as well. To utilize the Home Panel, ensure your device is linked to a Google Home app account that’s recognized in your Google TV profile. The device needs to be set to standard mode, and at least one smart home device should be added to your Google Home app.

If you do not see it automatically, you can enable it through the settings menu under Accounts & Sign-in.
