OpenAI has announced that its advanced research and analysis feature, known as Deep Research, will now be more widely accessible. Initially launched in February for ChatGPT Pro users only, this tool will now be available to those on ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro plans, as well as free users through a new lightweight version.
Deep Research, which utilizes OpenAI’s o3 model, assists users in generating detailed reports and insights much faster than traditional methods. The tool is integrated within ChatGPT and simplifies the process of collecting and presenting information.
Since its introduction, Deep Research has gained significant traction among users who apply it for various tasks, including literature reviews, market analysis, choosing educational institutions or living locations, and planning skincare routines. To enhance accessibility, OpenAI has rolled out a lighter version of Deep Research powered by the o4-mini model.
The company asserts that while this model operates more efficiently, it still delivers responses that are “nearly as intelligent” as those generated by the full version. Although these replies are shorter, users can expect a similar depth and quality of information.
Usage limits for Deep Research vary depending on the subscription plan. Free users are restricted to five tasks per month with the lightweight version only.
Those on the Plus or Team plans are allowed ten tasks per month using the full version and an additional fifteen with the lightweight version. Pro users can perform up to 125 tasks per month using both versions, while Enterprise users have a cap of ten tasks per month for the full version.
Once users reach their limit on the full version, ChatGPT will automatically switch to the lightweight version to prevent disruptions. Enterprise and educational users can look forward to accessing this tool starting next week.
