Recent leaks indicate that the US pre-order date for the Nintendo Switch 2 is set for April 9, 2025, which contradicts earlier reports. Retailers are bracing for day-one sellouts, even though Nintendo is reportedly stockpiling units for the launch.
Insider documents suggest a launch timeframe in June, heightening anticipation among fans. With the Nintendo Direct event approaching, speculation regarding the availability of the Switch 2 has been rampant.
Internal communications from a major US retailer reveal that pre-orders are anticipated to begin on April 9. Retailers expect their limited allocations of the console to sell out within hours of the pre-order opening.
This is noteworthy given that stocks are expected to be sufficient to meet initial demand. Complicating matters, Best Buy Canada had a brief blog post indicating that pre-orders for the Switch 2 might commence on April 2, coinciding with the Nintendo Direct event.
However, the post was quickly taken down, raising questions about its accuracy and whether it was published prematurely. The documents from the US retailer seem to support the April 9 timeline, which includes planned messaging strategies that mention a “Pre-Order Coming Soon” alert with a countdown to April 9.
Generally, it would be uncommon for Canadian pre-orders to begin a week ahead of those in the US, adding to the confusion. While Nintendo has not officially announced the release date or pre-order details, the documents hint at a June launch, which has been suggested previously.
Given these conflicting timelines and limited stock expectations, it may be wise for Switch enthusiasts to keep track of both April 2 and April 9, prepared for quick action when pre-orders become available.
